Screenwriting Conference
The 4th Screenwriting Research Conference creates an interdisciplinary forum addressing all aspects of research in screenwriting; theory and practice. Screenwriting, the generation and development of ideas for screenworks for different media is a complex collaborative creative activity. It raises questions about existing and future industrial practice, structures, and power; about cultural variation and influence; and about individual taste, judgement and habitus. We want to discuss the crossing of media boundaries in cultural, metaphorical and physical senses. It encompasses trans and cross-mediality as well as the real or imagined differences between scriptwriting practitioners and theoreticians.
The conference is organised by the Master of Arts, film industry writing and analysis of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, MAD-Faculty with support of Associatie KULeuven (Sint-Lukas), Associatie Universiteit Brussel (VUB, Rits-Erasmushogeschool) and will take place in Brussels: 8-9-10 September 2011

Made in Flanders (redux)
Het tijdschrift “Film International”, uitgegeven door Intellect Books, publiceerde onlangs het themanummer “Making films in Europe”. Deze editie focust op de recente filmproductie van een aantal Europese landen of regio’s. Het nummer bevat ook een bijdrage over filmproductie en -subsidiëring in Vlaanderen. Onder de titel “Made in Flanders (Redux)” wordt het recente commerciële en artistieke succes van de Vlaamse film in zijn historische, culturele en politiek-economische context geplaatst. Het artikel wijst op een aantal positieve trends, maar geeft ook aan dat dit succes van korte duur kan zijn.
“Made in Flanders (Redux): Film Production, Government Funding and Television Participation in Flanders, Belgium” is een artikel van Leen Engelen (Media & Design Academie Genk) en Roel Vande Winkel (Hogeschool Sint Lukas Brussel). De auteurs werden voor hun onderzoek financieel ondersteund door hun hogescholen. Ze zijn allebei geaffilieerd onderzoeker aan het Centrum voor Mediacultuur en Communicatietechnologie (KUL).
Het tijdschrift verscheen in februari 2011 met vertraging en is officieel het laatste nummer van jaargang 2010. De inhoudstafel staat op http://filmint.nu/?page_id=230 . Het volledige artikel is op aanvraag bij de auteurs te verkrijgen.

Festival Memorimage: Films of Today with Images of Yesterday is a competitive international film festival targeting films that use archival footage.
Memorimage is an innovative initiative that promotes the conservation and restoration of our audiovisual heritage. An event that asserts the importance of the image in the makeup of the individual and collective memory.
For this year’s celebration, Memorimage presents a programme that places priority on quality and seeks out the most recent film productions that include the use of archival footage. The festival schedule also features a number of additional activities for sector professionals, students and the general community, making Memorimage a strategic point of encounter to learn about and debate on the use of archival footage.
